International experts attended the Workshop on “Risk Management, Financial Regulation and Governance in Banking: Perspectives and Challenges of the European Banking Union” in Palermo. This workshop was organized by Sanfi (Santander Financial Institute), a research center promoted by UCEIF Foundation (Fundación de la universidad de Cantabria para el Estudio y la Investigación del Sector Financiero) that is supported by Santander Bank. The workshop organisers were Sanfi and Global Financial Project along with University of Palermo, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Regent’s University of London.
The workshop brought together over 40 expers who discussed the current state of the financial economy. Several experts of the Global Bank Project attended the Workshop: Eleuterio Vallelado, Pablo de Andrés and Jens Hagendorf, professor at the Cardiff Business School (UK) who gaves a presentation on “Corporate Government in banking” under the title: “The Wolves of Wall Street: manager attributes and bank business models”.
The rector of the Palermo University opened the conference together with Fabio Mazzola, academic vicerrector. After the official welcome, three thematic blocks started the debate: banking regulation, banking risk and different government views.
It is worth stressing the participation of some relevant researchers, such as Santiago Carbó, Dirk Cupei and Carlo Di Salvo. The first speaker is an economics professor at the Business School Bangor University (one of the best of the world in banking research) who participated with the lecture “Keynote: Bank debt underwriting: does it matter?”. Dirk Cupei and Carlo Di Salvo are presidents of banking institutions at European level.
Santander Financial Institute has previously sponsored these type of initiatives, for example the first Workshop on financial economics, which recently took place in Santander (Spain).
